Baby Steps
One of my all time favorite movies is "What About Bob?" Bill Murray portrays a very paranoid man who is afraid of even the most simple things in life. While the movie is an exaggeration, I can identify with 'Bob' in many ways! Today is one of those days! It seems like my list of things to do keeps getting longer and I'm never quite sure when (or if) everything will ever get done! Since I tend to try to do things perfectly, this poses an even bigger problem.
So, when there are far more things to do than there is time to do everything, where does one begin?
My Mom has always said that the expression "One Day at a Time" is too big for her; so, I guess that I don't get this from strangers! She says that even one hour at a time may seem too monumental. She opts to go with her version; fifteen minutes at a time. I guess that it's worked for her! She raised five active children, lost one precious baby boy at birth and was widowed at the age of 59. She went through open heart surgery in her eighties and will be celebrating her 91st birthday next month. What a woman!
Today is a month past the last Christmas Eve day. That is hard to believe! And, since I turned 59 on December 15th, I am over one month closer to turning 60. The very thought of it reverts me to 'Bob-likeness'!
I know that God is very aware of these fears that we face each day. This is one of my favorite verses (and, it just happens to be the daily reading for today in my One Year Bible);
Proverbs 4:20-22
"My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh."
Reading, and believing, that passage makes the obstacles of life seem a bit smaller.
